Restitution & Public Inquiries Division Responsible for the reinstatement of assets belonging to Holocaust victims, or the reinstatement of the fair value of these assets, to those eligible for them.
The division is comprised of two units:
| 1. |
The Restitution Division is responsible for examining requests made by potential beneficiaries to verify their identity and their eligibility to inherit the asset. The division includes three departments, each of which deals with the requests for restitution of assets recorded in the assets list on the Company's website (requests for assets not published are transferred to the Assets & Beneficiaries Identification Division). Each department deals with a different type of asset (real estate, money, and Jewish Colonial Bank shares), comparing the information received from the applicant with that found in the Company files and determining the applicant's eligibility to inherit the asset in accordance with the laws of inheritance. Likewise, the Restitution Division initiates investigations regarding the identity of asset owners and beneficiaries.
The Processing of applications that arrive at the Division ends upon the formulation of one of two possible responses:
- A restitution decision entails the declaration of the applicant's eligibility for the asset requested upon his/her having proven that he/she is the beneficiary or otherwise entitled to inherit. The decision is transferred to the Finance & Assets Management Division for release of the asset.
- A rejection decision or request termination - Lacking personal identification, an ineligibility to inherit, in accordance with the law, or else due to the applicant's cancellation of his/her request. Also due to other technical reasons.
A company decision may be appealed before an appeals committee that has been established in accordance with the Assets Law.
